Real-Time Air Data Week of September 15, 2008

  • Real-Time air (dust) monitoring (Near Field Zone monitoring) - this type of air monitoring will determine if dust is migrating outside of the immediate work area so that additional dust control measures can be implemented before any dust can move off-site. This monitoring will consist of continuous, real-time dust monitoring upwind and downwind of the work zone during all phases of work with potential for significant release of dust (i.e., during soil excavation, backfill, waste placement, and cap installation.)  Real-Time monitoring provides immediate information on the amount of dust (not just lead) being generated.

The real-time monitors will be moved around on a daily basis based on the location of work activities for the day.

Monday, September 15, 2008 (working hours)

                    Monday, September 15, 2008 (non-working hours)

Tuesday, September 16, 2008 (working hours)

                   Tuesday, September 16, 2008 (non-working hours)

Wednesday, September 17, 2008 (working hours)

Wednesday, September 17, 2008 (non-working hours) - Air Monitor 6 lost power and stopped working at approximately 12:42 am.  The ground was wet when AGC employees left the Site on Wednesday evening and when they returned to work on Thursday morning.  We do not feel there was any potential for any significant dust generation during the period when the monitor wasn't working.   As you can see by clicking on the link above in orange, the results for the other two monitors that were running during the overnight hours were all below the action levels.  Co-located lead samples were collected at the same time as the air monitors ran.  (Click here to review the data.)

Thursday, September 18, 2008 (working hours) - Air Monitor 1 had three half hour average readings recorded that were at or above the Action Level for the  area it was in.  There was no visible dust and the work area was wet.  No additional dust control action was necessary.  Co-located samples were collected at the same time as the air monitors ran and data for those samples will be provided on this page once it is available.

                    Thursday, September 18, 2008 (non-working hours)

Friday, September 19, 2008 (working hours)

                               Friday, September 19, 2008 (non-working hours)

Saturday, September 20, 2008 (working hours)

Weekend, September 20, 2008 through September 21, 2008 (non-working hours) - Air Monitors 2, 4, and 6 had half hourly average readings recorded that were at or above the Action Level for the areas they were in.  There was no visible dust observed by AGC or SCE representatives checking the Site and the work area was wet.  SCE wet the work area three times and ran the Dust Boss to mist the air on Sunday, September 21, 2008, in order to make sure there was no dust.  The perimeter high volume air samplers collected air lead samples throughout the weekend.  All results were below the National Ambient Air Quality Standard of 1.5 ug/m3.  (Click here to view tables with those sample results.)  (Click here to view the locations of the perimeter high volume air samplers with the sample results.)
